Guide to the perfect jeans according to your morphology
Denim jeans are a piece that everyone wears and goes with everything ! Whether for an evening, a cocktail or for every day, it is a must in our wardrobe. However, there are different cuts or sizes (or heights) of jeans. So to make it easier for you, we have prepared a little guide for you so that you can choose the perfect jeans according to your morphology.
The evolution of denim
It was in the middle of the 19th century that denim jeans were invented. At that time, it was miners and workers who wore it for its quality and solidity. It was first patented in 1873 by Jacob Davis, a tailor, and Levi Strauss, a businessman.
The 20th century is the key period for denim, which then becomes an essential fashion accessory. In the 1930s, it was found in Hollywood films, generally associated with cowboys. It is then worn by actors like Marlon Brando or James Dean, who make denim jeans “cool”.
It was only later, in the 1950s, that women became fashionable for denim. Marilyn Monroe caused a sensation by wearing a pair in the film “River of No Return”.
In the 1970s and 1980s, it was even associated with rebellious and non-conformist youth. Denim enters the rock scene where we find washouts, tears and holes.
Denim jeans finally became a universal piece in the 1990s, notably by making a place for themselves in fashion shows. The biggest luxury houses like Calvin Klein or Dior present their collection including denim.
Today, jeans are an essential piece worn by all social classes, all over the world.
The different types of jeans
The cut
- Straight or “regular” jeans
If you don’t really like tight jeans, try straight cut jeans ! This cut is a basic because it is very comfortable while remaining trendy. Its particularity is that it follows the shape of the legs without sticking them. - Slim jeans
Slim jeans are a cousin of straight jeans. This cut follows the shape of the leg by being narrower than the “regular” at the ankles. - Le jean skinny
Skinny jeans
In the same idea as slim jeans, skinny jeans are even narrower and are the tightest jeans you can find. - Bell bottom jeans
Le jean à pattes d’éléphant ou « patte d’eph » est moulant jusqu’au genoux et s’élargit jusqu’au chevilles. C’est le modèle phare des années 1970 où il est le symbole du style hippie. - Flared jeans
In the same style, we also find flare jeans. This cut is also more flared at the ankles, but in a more subtle way than the flared jeans, which widen abruptly from the knees. - Bootcut jeans
The bootcut is jeans that are often worn with boots, hence the word “boot”, which means “boot” in English. It is a slightly flared cut that is similar to the flare cut or eph leg. However, it remains less extravagant than the latter. - Mom jeans
These jeans have a straight cut that stops just above the ankles. It has a high waist and it is quite wide at the hips. - Boyfriend jeans
Close to the style of mom jeans, the boyfriend is still different. It suits more casual styles and is usually worn low-waisted. It is ample at the level of the thighs and tightened at the bottom.
The size (or height)
- Tall
High-waisted jeans rise above the navel and can rise even higher by becoming very high-waisted jeans. - Medium or normal size
Mid-rise jeans stop a little below the navel. - Small size
Low-rise jeans stop at the hips.
Denim jeans are also available in different colors. Basic denim, called raw or “raw denim”, is indigo in color. But it is also found in black, gray, colored or faded.
Choose the perfect jeans according to your morphology
It takes everything to make a world ! Indeed, each human body is unique and each person has their own morphology. It is therefore important to know yours in order to know how to show off with denim jeans.
Here is a short guide for you that will help you choose the perfect jeans according to your morphology.
Figure 8 morphology | The waist is well marked and the shoulders align with the hips. The silhouette of a woman in 8 often has voluptuous forms. For this morphology, all types of jeans can go. However, it is advisable to favor high waists over low waists to lengthen the silhouette. |
X morphology | Like the 8 morphology, the shoulders and hips are aligned. The difference with an X silhouette is that the shapes are less generous. Just like for the woman in 8, all types of jeans can go. It is still advisable to avoid low sizes. |
A morphology | For this morphology, the shoulders are narrower than the hips. A woman with an A-line silhouette usually wears larger sizes for her pants than for her tops. For a more proportionate silhouette, mark the waist with high-waisted jeans. To harmonize it, nothing like flare, bootcut or boyfriend denim. Low rise jeans are to be avoided. |
V morphology | The V body shape is the opposite of the A body shape : the shoulders are wider than the hips. Unlike the woman in A, this morphology is suitable for low waists. In order to harmonize the silhouette, we recommend flared jeans at the bottom such as bootcut, flare or eph leg. High waisted jeans are to be avoided. |
H morphology | An H-shaped woman has her shoulders and hips aligned. Except that contrary to the morphology in 8, the size is not very marked. The silhouette is therefore rather straight. To give the illusion of a marked waist, low-rise jeans are perfect for an H shape. Slim, straight or even bootcut cuts will highlight the silhouette. High waisted jeans are to be avoided. |
O morphology | Women in O have a coated silhouette. The shoulders and hips are less marked than their chest, which is often generous. To structure the silhouette of women in O, straight cuts are ideal. Boyfriend jeans are also a good idea to give a casual style. It is necessary to favor high waists and avoid low waists as well as jeans that are too wide. |
